REALITY + IMAGE: BEYOND THE BRICKS
AUG 27 – OCT 19, 2024
"REALITY + IMAGE: BEYOND THE BRICKS," a solo exhibition by Korean artist Kim Kang Yong, celebrated for his exploration of hyperrealism and the boundary between reality and imagination. Inspired by the vibrant brick colors of Manhattan during his stay in New York from 2005 to 2007, Kim shifted from monochrome to multicolored works. His brick paintings, while visually realistic, are virtual representations that challenge viewers' perceptions. Using sand-covered canvases and meticulous shading, he creates the illusion of depth and texture, emphasizing light and shadow. Kim rejects the label of hyperrealism, viewing his bricks as illusions that express his artistic vision and the interconnectedness of society, likening the formation of bricks to the coming together of individuals.

THE FUTURE IS PRESENT IS PAST
OCT 24 – DEC 14, 2024
“The Future is Past is Present” delves into themes of time, identity, and existence, heavily influenced by T.S. Eliot’s Four Quartets. His artworks, resembling flowers, capture personal experiences and invite contemplation on life’s fleeting nature. In his series "A Rose is a Rose is a Rose," Guffogg challenges conventional notions of identity through abstract forms. His work also resonates with quantum physics concepts, as noted by physicist David Ash, emphasizing the intricate connections that shape reality and inviting viewers to reflect on profound existential questions.
