The 21 paintings created by Shane are born from the dialogue with the poet T.S. Eliot with the aim of telling the story of the human race, its mutability and its continuous living in tension between present and future. ©Copyright by Gioielli Nascosti di Venezia Ed Moses, considered a member of the California "Cool School," was among the first artists to exhibit with the storied Ferus Gallery in 1958. His 2013 solo exhibition Yesterday’s Tomorrows, featuring his ‘crackle’ paintings at Brian Gross Fine Art in San Francisco, provided the footage for his video produced by The Artist Profile Archive. He was also interviewed in his Venice, CA studio. There is a memorable out-take after the end credits. ©Copyright by artnet News Through color palette and the visually perceived movement of paints across the canvas, the landscape, and natural elements are conveyed through abstract and subject visual means and invite prolonged looking to infer where the representational ends and the abstraction begins. Notably, the hand of the artist is absent from these works, as Moses uses a method of canvas tilting and gravity to move and shift the flow and direction of the pigment rather than a brush or palette knife. ©Copyright by artnet News Projects X Something Sweet Nov - Jan 2025 150 W 55th Street, New York, NY Kim Hong Bin X Something Sweet Jan - Feb 2025 150 W 55th Street, New York, NY Oh Kwan Jin CHASE Project #5 In Progress C2 - Middletown Kim Hong BIn NYFW S/S 2025 Feb 6, 2025 With Alex Soldiers @ C1 - New York Cho Yong Ik, Kim In Ok, Ahn Seongmin, Choi Sungho, Kim Ho Bong CHASE Project #6 Apr 2025 C2 - Middletown Anon Collectors' Summer Night Jun 2025 C3 - Englewood Kim Chong-Hak Collectors' Summer Night Aug 2025 C3 - Englewood Kim Jom Son JOIN OUR NEWSLETTER Join our email list and get access to specials deals exclusive to our subscribers. United States, 1962 Artist Biography Works Next Shane Guffogg United States, 1962 BIOGRAPHY Shane Guffogg is an internationally celebrated contemporary painter whose abstract works bridge the emotive depth of classical traditions with the innovative spirit of modern abstraction. Born in California’s San Joaquin Valley in 1962, Guffogg grew up surrounded by vast landscapes and open skies that profoundly shaped his artistic vision. He studied at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) under the mentorship of influential artists like John Baldessari, where he developed his distinctive approach to exploring light, space, and the human experience through painting. Guffogg’s style is defined by intricate layers of translucent oil paint, meticulously applied in a glazing technique that creates depth and luminosity. His paintings feature rhythmic, looping forms that seem to flow endlessly, evoking the sensation of movement and infinity. The works often oscillate between sharp clarity and soft diffusion, inviting viewers into a contemplative interplay between light, color, and form. Drawing inspiration from Renaissance masters such as Rembrandt and Caravaggio, as well as Abstract Expressionists like Mark Rothko, Guffogg’s works transcend time and tradition, resonating with universal themes of perception, spirituality, and transformation. In 2024, Guffogg presented a landmark solo exhibition titled At the Still Point of the Turning World – Strangers of Time at the Scala Contarini del Bovolo in Venice, Italy. This exhibition, aligned with the 60th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, showcased 21 new paintings inspired by T.S. Eliot’s Four Quartets. Through this series, Guffogg explored the interplay of time, memory, and migration, weaving themes of transience and permanence into his work. Notably, the exhibition incorporated augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI), offering viewers a multisensory experience that deepened their connection to the paintings. Guffogg’s works have been exhibited extensively in the United States, Europe, and Asia, and are housed in major public and private collections, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the Hammer Museum, and the Vatican Museum. His ability to combine technical mastery with profound emotional resonance has earned him widespread acclaim as one of the most significant abstract artists of his generation. Currently based in Los Angeles, Guffogg continues to create works that challenge and expand the boundaries of abstraction. His paintings serve as meditative spaces where viewers can reflect on the interconnectedness of light, time, and human experience, offering a profound and transformative encounter with the art of seeing. • Cho Yong Ik

South Korea, 1934-2023 Artist Biography Works Next Cho Yong Ik South Korea, 1934-2023 BIOGRAPHY Cho Yong-Ik was a prominent South Korean artist and a pioneering figure in the Dansaekhwa (monochrome painting) movement. Born on February 20, 1934, in Bukcheong, Korea, he pursued his education at Seoul National University in the mid-1960s, studying under the esteemed art historian, critic, and painter Kim Byung-ki. This mentorship instilled in him the importance of maintaining artistic independence, a principle that became central to his practice. Throughout his seven-decade-long career, Cho developed a distinctive approach within the Dansaekhwa movement. While his contemporaries often focused on monochromatic palettes, Cho's work stood out for its incorporation of color and dynamic compositions. His paintings are characterized by energetic abstractions featuring lyrical scratches, whisks, and flicks, emphasizing process, materiality, and systematic organization. This unique style allowed him to push the boundaries of Korean abstract art. Cho's contributions to art were recognized both nationally and internationally. He participated in significant exhibitions such as the Paris Biennale in 1961 and 1969, and the São Paulo Bienal in 1967. His works have been showcased in esteemed institutions, including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul and Gwacheon, the Leeum Museum of Art, and the Fukuoka Museum of Art in Japan. In 2016, he held a major solo exhibition at the Sungkok Art Museum in Seoul, further cementing his legacy in the art world. Beyond his artistic practice, Cho was dedicated to education and the advancement of the Korean art community. He served as a professor at Chugye University for the Arts from 1974 to 1992 and held the position of vice executive director of the Korean Fine Arts Association between 1977 and 1983. Cho Yong-Ik passed away on July 2, 2023, at the age of 89. His legacy endures through his innovative contributions to Korean abstract art and his influence on subsequent generations of artists. • “Mirror-Like Paintings”: Jimi Gleason’s First Solo Exhibition in Seoul | GALLERY CHANG

Back “Mirror-Like Paintings”: Jimi Gleason’s First Solo Exhibition in Seoul A solo exhibition by contemporary artist Jimi Gleason, Illuminated Silence , is being held at Gallery Chang Seoul, located in the Oakwood Premier COEX Center, through June 28. Centered on the theme “silence painted with light,” this exhibition marks the final chapter of Gleason’s Coast to Coast touring project, which concludes in Seoul after presentations in New York and Los Angeles. Using metallic pigments and specialized materials, Gleason creates mirror-like paintings that shift according to the viewer’s movement and the angle of light. His works metaphorically express light that emerges from stillness, and the silence revealed by that light. Gallery Chang explained, “This exhibition, presented in Seoul for the first time, brings together both signature works and new pieces, proposing new possibilities for art at the intersection of the material and immaterial, the visual and the emotional.” < >

  • Kim Mine

South Korea, 1990 Artist Biography Works Next Kim Mine South Korea, 1990 BIOGRAPHY Kim Mine is a contemporary Korean artist best known for her ongoing character-based practice centered on NOBODY , a teddy-bear-like figure that embodies universal human experience. Stripped of fixed identity—such as age, gender, nationality, or social role—NOBODY functions as an anonymous yet deeply relatable presence, standing in for the ordinary individual navigating everyday life. Through painting, sculpture, and installation, Kim Miné explores moments that are often overlooked: small gestures, quiet emotions, and seemingly meaningless routines. Her work is guided by the idea of “the meaning of the meaningless,” revealing how personal narratives and collective emotions accumulate through ordinary experience. By presenting familiarity without specificity, her practice invites viewers to project their own memories and identities onto the figure, transforming anonymity into empathy. Kim Mine’s work resonates across cultures by addressing shared emotional states rather than individual stories. In her universe, NOBODY becomes everybody—an open vessel through which contemporary life, vulnerability, and connection are gently but persistently examined. --- Kim Mine Solo Exhibitions • NOBODY’s Present : MONSTER Gallery Gwanram, Seoul, South Korea, 2025 • The Present TDA Haus, Seoul, South Korea, 2024 • Meeting Global Luxury NOBODY Doosan Tower Luxury Gallery, Seoul, South Korea, 2023 • NOBODY and EVERYTHING Sesame Museum, Incheon, South Korea, 2023 ⸻ Group Exhibitions & Art Fairs • National Hangeul Museum Exhibition National Museum of World Writing Systems, Incheon, South Korea, 2025 (Group Exhibition) • Group Exhibition Saebyeokseisi Gallery, Incheon, South Korea, 2025 (3-person show) • Art Fair Daegu 2025 EXCO, Daegu, South Korea • Happy NEW Artist Exhibition YK Gallery, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, 2025 • Gotaek Art Festa 2024 Muju Hyanggyo, Jeollabuk-do, South Korea • URBANBREAK Art Fair 2024 COEX, Seoul, South Korea • 15th Design Art Fair 2024 Seoul Arts Center, Seoul, South Korea • OrangeHare OFFLINE Exhibition Space OrangeHare, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, 2024 • K-Artist Group Exhibition Gallery Chang, New York, USA, 2024 • Blossom Art Fair Shinsegae Gallery, Seoul, South Korea, 2023 • Affordable Art Fair Battersea Park, London, United Kingdom, 2023 • Gwangju International Art Fair (ART GWANGJU 23) Kim Dae-jung Convention Center, Gwangju, South Korea, 2023 • Blossom the Hope Art Fair 2023 COEX, Seoul, South Korea • MSUC Art Fest 2022 Gallery K, Seoul, South Korea • Blockchain Week in Busan 2022 BEXCO, Busan, South Korea • Plastic Art Seoul (PLAS) 2022 COEX, Seoul, South Korea ⸻ Art Collaborations • Korean National Police Agency × Kim Mine NOBODY “K-HERO” Art Goods Design Project • DEWL × Kim Mine “Dewlian” Character Design, Apparel, Emoticons & Pop-up Store • DEELO × Kim Mine Modular Furniture Project – Spatial Art Direction • POSCA × EPSON × Kim Mine Artist Interview & Live Drawing Collaboration • EPSON × Kim Mine Digital Print Collaboration & Artist Interview • RVN × Kim Mine Apparel Pattern Design Collaboration ⸻ Awards & Selections • Youth Focus Film Festival Selected Artist (Top 5) • Gangnam Green Canvas Project Final Selection (Top 10 Artists) • Art Token × Tent Film Festival Grand Prize (1st Place) • DDP NFT Collecting Vol. 1 Final Selection (Top 10 Artists) • Seoul-ro Media Canvas 2022 Final Selection (Top 10 Artists) ⸻ Lectures & Talks • “The Future of Digital Art and NOBODY” Digital Media Tech Show, KINTEX, Seoul, South Korea • “The Metaverse World and NOBODY” Korea Institute of Engineering & Technology, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea • “The Future of Digital Art and NOBODY” Korea Smart Tech Professionals Association Inauguration Ceremony, Seoul, South Korea WORKS Load More

  • Gallery Chang Presents Time-Shift Exhibition in an Abandoned Building | GALLERY CHANG

Back Gallery Chang Presents Time-Shift Exhibition in an Abandoned Building Gallery Chang is presenting a time-shift curatorial exhibition titled CHASE Project: Phase Shift , using an abandoned building as its exhibition site. Originally conceived at the multidisciplinary cultural space “The Bank” in Middletown, Upstate New York, the project has been expanded and re-presented as a new version at Gallery Chang in Manhattan. Three artists—Shin Kiwoun, Kim Hong Bin, and Anon—are participating. The exhibition first presents works by Kim Hong Bin and Anon through August 5, followed by Shin Ki Woun’s solo presentation Illusion of Permanence through August 12. Shin also participated in the restoration project of Nam June Paik’s The More the Better at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea. Video artist Shin Ki woun explores the meanings of “existence” and “non-existence” through images that inhabit a worldview of “generation” and “disappearance,” adopting and experimenting with technical methods that push beyond the boundaries of art. Gallery Chang explains that Shin revives images of memories that were once real but soon vanished—becoming ambiguous and lost—by using time-lapse filming to reconstruct them as psychological spaces within memory. Textile artist An On has developed her own visual language through flat works, reliefs, and installations using textiles as her primary medium. By tearing, layering, and stitching fabrics that she has printed herself, she creates surfaces that are both painterly and sculptural. Gallery Chang notes that An’s textile collages contain narratives of color and layers of sensation within meticulous structures. They visualize natural temporality, personal emotions, and fragments of memory through the materiality of fabric. Repeated cutting, reassembling, and sewing leave traces of contemplation, while restrained vertical and horizontal compositions maintain a steady rhythm, and colors evoke sensations of season, light, and emotion. Artist Kim Hong Bin, who works under the name “VANHADA,” expresses themes such as “the beauty one seeks” and “the challenge of something new.” According to Gallery Chang, Kim reflects the “anxiety of an unsettled life” in his works, exaggerating colors to express how he absorbs and even enjoys stimuli and stress from his environment. Working mainly with acrylic on flat surfaces, he uses paint like stickers and creates various forms by crumpling, tearing, and reconfiguring his materials. Curator Jinnie Kang commented, “This exhibition itself—the act of moving a project that began in Upstate New York into another urban space—is a ‘process of transition.’ It will be an opportunity to imagine together how space and art can meet.”

  • Synesthetic Reverie | GALLERY CHANG

Synesthetic Reverie Something Sweet Gallery Cafe X Gallery Chang Hongbin Kim (VANHADA) Nov 8, 2024 - Jan 31, 2025 Synesthetic Reverie Hongbin Kim’s exhibition, "Synesthetic Reverie," presents a synesthetic world that transcends the boundaries of color and sensation. In this exhibition, the artist expresses single-color pigments in three-dimensional forms, capturing depth and vibrancy that extend beyond the flat plane. Each color represents the artist, others, or the diverse individuals navigating the layered complexity of New York City, revealing the multifaceted nature of a person through color. In his work, the paint is not merely flat but expresses the vibrant potential of color through dimensionality. This color transcends simple visual stimuli, arriving as a synesthetic reverie that invites viewers to reencounter the varied identities of individuals and the world. "Synesthetic Reverie" offers visitors an immersive experience, exploring self, others, and urban life through color and form. We invite you to Something Sweet Gallery Cafe to encounter a new realm of art that transcends the boundaries of perception and being.

  • The Mark of Time: Tracing the Origins of Eastern and Western Abstraction | GALLERY CHANG

Back The Mark of Time: Tracing the Origins of Eastern and Western Abstraction Gallery Chang in Midtown Manhattan presents the four-artist exhibition The Mark of Time from January 8 to February 17, 2026. Bringing together works by Korean and American artists Cho Yong Ik, Kim Kang Yong, Ed Moses, and Jimi Gleason, the exhibition examines the origins of Eastern and Western abstraction through the shared lens of time as a mode of thought. The Mark of Time does not approach abstraction as a singular style or a linear outcome of art history. Instead, it considers abstraction as a way of thinking that emerged simultaneously across different cultural contexts. The exhibition traces how artists working within distinct environments and traditions have shared fundamental questions of time, material, and action. Here, abstraction is understood not as a finished form, but as a process through which experience accumulates and is recorded. What appears on the canvas is less a completed image than the residue of time—repeated gestures, countless decisions, and moments of choice and withdrawal layered over duration. The exhibition is structured around two interconnected dialogues. The first dialogue brings together the works of Ed Moses and Cho Yong Ik, viewing abstraction as a trace of time. For Moses, painting is not a means of representation but an event shaped by action and decision. His canvases bear not only visible brushstrokes, but also erased movements, hesitation, and the temporal span of the painting’s making. Cho Yong-Ik’s work is likewise formed through repetition, restraint, and a meditative rigor. Rather than completing an image in a single gesture, he gradually builds density through sustained and deliberate actions, allowing abstraction to function as a vessel for the experience of time. The second dialogue connects the practices of Kim Kang Yong and Jimi Gleason, expanding abstraction into a materially constructed world. Kim’s brick paintings are the result of labor, weight, and time meticulously layered onto the canvas. While they evoke physical structures, they operate less as representations than as painterly inquiries into material, structure, and illusion. Gleason similarly constructs his surfaces through repetitive gestures and layered silvery pigments, allowing resistance, reflection, and material tension to shape form. Curator Jinnie Kang explains, “Rather than deeply comparing or opposing East and West, The Mark of Time seeks to show how different modes of abstract thinking, formed within distinct contexts, can converge into a single flow. By viewing abstraction not through cultural divisions but through attitudes toward time, action, and material, the exhibition highlights moments where the artists’ works intersect and resonate naturally within parallel relationships.” https://www.nyculturebeat.com/index.php?document_srl=4174429&mid=Lounge2 < >
