Known for his mastery of the traditional Korean moon jar and his innovative approach to both painting and sculpture, Oh Kwan Jin’s work explores the profound beauty and vitality of pottery. In this special event, Oh Kwan Jin will focus on the life force emanating from ceramics, bringing to life the intricate beauty and texture of these art forms through his meticulous drawing. His work goes beyond mere representation, offering a hyper-realistic depiction of the moon jar’s imbalanced form, the blackened traces of fire on the makgeolli bowl, and the subtle cracks resulting from a fateful confrontation with the flames. This level of detail not only showcases his technical prowess but also creates a surreal world where plum blossoms and cherries thrive beyond the canvas, blending realism with otherworldly elements. Oh Kwan Jin's approach is a remarkable blend of Eastern and Western artistic traditions. He transcends the conventional boundaries of Eastern painting by integrating the aesthetic beauty of ceramics into his artwork. His creations fluidly traverse the realms of painting and sculpture, presenting a harmonious fusion of the ancient and the contemporary. His work vividly captures the paradox of being both full and empty, merging nostalgic charm with modern sensibilities. The live drawing at missKOREA BBQ will transform the restaurant into a vibrant canvas, allowing guests to experience Oh Kwan Jin’s innovative techniques and profound artistic vision firsthand. As you enjoy the acclaimed Korean barbecue and festive atmosphere, you will witness the creation of an exceptional artwork that celebrates the Lunar New Year with a unique artistic perspective. • Emotion in Transition | GALLERY CHANG

Emotions in Transition Koo Na Hyun Jul 14 - Jul 28, 2022 Emotion in Transition Koo Na Hyun's public art project, "Echoes of Expectation: Emotions in Transition," transforms the pre-construction stage of the former CHASE building in Middletown, New York, into a canvas of emotional exploration and imaginative expression. This project delves into the rich tapestry of feelings that inhabit spaces once filled with the hum of everyday transactions and the weight of financial decisions. As the building awaits its next chapter, Koo Na Hyun’s performance drawing brings to life the myriad emotions associated with a bank—anticipation, anxiety, and the subtle tremors of human experience that have passed through its walls. The artist’s vision captures these emotions, infusing them with creative interpretation and abstract representation. The performance drawing unfolds across the building’s inner walls, creating a dynamic interplay between the space and the artist’s brush. This temporary installation draws upon the intangible sensations experienced by individuals in the bank’s former setting, expressing them through evocative imagery and expressive lines. Each stroke and mark conveys the anticipation of waiting, the concern of decision-making, and the excitement of possibilities. "Echoes of Expectation: Emotions in Transition" invites viewers to reflect on the emotional landscape of a place that has served as a crucible of human interaction and financial activity. As Koo Na Hyun’s drawings breathe new life into the building’s interior, they also offer a meditation on how spaces are imbued with the collective emotional experiences of their occupants. The exhibition not only highlights the artist’s ability to translate abstract emotions into visual art but also engages the audience in a dialogue about the spaces we inhabit and the feelings they evoke. As the former CHASE building transitions to its next purpose, this project serves as a poignant reminder of the emotional echoes left behind and the imaginative potential of reinterpreting these remnants. Join us in experiencing "Echoes of Expectation: Emotions in Transition," where the walls of an awaiting space become a canvas for exploring and celebrating the myriad emotions that once animated this significant location.

  • Everywhere Project -New York | GALLERY CHANG

Everywhere Project - New York Im JI BIN Jul 22 - Jul 29, 2022 Everywhere Project - New York Im Ji Bin’s latest initiative, "Everywhere," brings a whimsical and innovative approach to art by transforming everyday spaces into interactive galleries. Known for his charming Bear Balloons and a vision that bridges art with accessibility, Im Ji Bin challenges traditional gallery settings and reaches out directly to audiences through his unique concept of "Delivery Art." In this project, Im Ji Bin reimagines art’s role in public spaces, aiming to make art more approachable and engaging for a broader audience. Rather than confining his work to the often intimidating and less frequented walls of conventional galleries, he brings his art directly to where people live and interact. This method of “Delivery Art” reflects his belief that art should not be limited by physical space but should be an accessible experience for everyone. The "Everywhere" project has made notable appearances at the former CHASE building in New York and along 32nd Street in Koreatown, showcasing Im Ji Bin's dedication to integrating art into diverse environments. By placing his endearing Bear Balloons in these locations, he invites the public to encounter art in their daily routines, blending artistic expression with everyday life. The Bear Balloons, with their playful and approachable design, serve as the centerpiece of this initiative. They are not just decorative elements but symbols of Im Ji Bin’s commitment to making art an accessible and enjoyable part of daily experiences. Each Bear Balloon becomes a delightful surprise in unexpected places, sparking joy and curiosity in those who encounter them. "Everywhere: The Delivery Art of Im Ji Bin" celebrates the notion that art can and should be an integral part of our lives, seamlessly fitting into the environments we traverse every day. By breaking down the barriers between art and audience, Im Ji Bin redefines the boundaries of artistic engagement, inviting everyone to experience and appreciate art in their own spaces and moments. This exhibition encourages viewers to see art as a dynamic and interactive experience, rather than a static object confined to a gallery. Im Ji Bin’s project highlights the potential for art to reach out and connect with people on a personal level, making the artistic experience accessible, relatable, and truly omnipresent. Join us in celebrating Im Ji Bin’s vision of a world where art is not confined by walls but delivered to and enjoyed in every corner of our lives.
