Emotion in Transition
Koo Na Hyun's public art project, "Echoes of Expectation: Emotions in Transition," transforms the pre-construction stage of the former CHASE building in Middletown, New York, into a canvas of emotional exploration and imaginative expression. This project delves into the rich tapestry of feelings that inhabit spaces once filled with the hum of everyday transactions and the weight of financial decisions.
As the building awaits its next chapter, Koo Na Hyun’s performance drawing brings to life the myriad emotions associated with a bank—anticipation, anxiety, and the subtle tremors of human experience that have passed through its walls. The artist’s vision captures these emotions, infusing them with creative interpretation and abstract representation.
The performance drawing unfolds across the building’s inner walls, creating a dynamic interplay between the space and the artist’s brush. This temporary installation draws upon the intangible sensations experienced by individuals in the bank’s former setting, expressing them through evocative imagery and expressive lines. Each stroke and mark conveys the anticipation of waiting, the concern of decision-making, and the excitement of possibilities.
"Echoes of Expectation: Emotions in Transition" invites viewers to reflect on the emotional landscape of a place that has served as a crucible of human interaction and financial activity. As Koo Na Hyun’s drawings breathe new life into the building’s interior, they also offer a meditation on how spaces are imbued with the collective emotional experiences of their occupants.
The exhibition not only highlights the artist’s ability to translate abstract emotions into visual art but also engages the audience in a dialogue about the spaces we inhabit and the feelings they evoke. As the former CHASE building transitions to its next purpose, this project serves as a poignant reminder of the emotional echoes left behind and the imaginative potential of reinterpreting these remnants.
Join us in experiencing "Echoes of Expectation: Emotions in Transition," where the walls of an awaiting space become a canvas for exploring and celebrating the myriad emotions that once animated this significant location.
