In this exhibition, Guffogg presents a new interpretation of human perception in the age of AI. At the opening reception, he remarked, “We are already living in the fourth world—the world in our hands, the reality inside our phones,” raising the question of what “memory” and “the present” mean in an era when machines preserve memory. The complex intersections of lines and trajectories of light in his work are not merely abstract forms, but visualizations of vibrating consciousness, data flows, and the points where human thought intersects with AI. Guffogg explains, “My work is about painting the space where human and machine, present and future, memory and prediction overlap.” For many years, Guffogg has explored AI as an artistic tool through his algorithmic project Sounds of Color , which translates color into sound. He sees AI not simply as technology, but as a new “language” that expands human perception, seeking through art to restore humanity in the technological age. He later worked as an assistant to pop artists Ed Ruscha and Joe Goode. He has drawn inspiration from J.M.W. Turner’s seascapes, Mark Rothko’s late works on paper, Rembrandt’s paintings, and Jasper Johns’s early “alphabet” paintings. In the 1990s, he developed a pattern-painting technique using layered translucent oil paint to create inner light within the canvas, expressing consciousness and the subconscious. From 2009 onward, inspired by T.S. Eliot’s poem Burnt Norton , he began the ongoing At the Still Point series, depicting movements of light through ribbon-like brushstrokes. Later, inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s Ginevra de’ Benci (National Gallery, Washington DC), he created the Ginevra de Benci series, using oil paint mixed with resin and ribbon-like light motifs that subtly suggest the feminine form of the original portrait. < Back CHASE Project: ANON May 1, 2025 Once a proud symbol of financial power, first as the Bank of New York in the 1960s and then as Chase Bank in the 1990s, this building no longer serves its original purpose. In an age shaped by a global pandemic and rapid digitalization, grand bank buildings like this have become obsolete. The meaning and function of this space have reached a turning point. Anon constructs sculptural surfaces that express sensory layering, using color and texture as core visual language. Through repetitions of layering, tearing, rolling, and attaching, she creates bas-relief works using textiles, paper, and fiber. These forms stimulate both touch and sight, forming spaces that resonate emotionally. Her compositions, both rhythmic and organic, breathe quiet vitality into the architectural shell. In this exhibition, she lends warmth and emotional texture to a transitional space, gently illuminating the inner tremors of change. The building is gently reactivated as a space for artistic and emotional encounter. Anon’s tactile surfaces and rhythmic compositions open a dialogue between past and present, transforming a former site of financial authority into a place of reflection, sensitivity, and renewed meaning.

Some surfaces slow the breath, drawing the body into a state of quiet attention. Others sharpen perception, producing a subtle tension that resists stillness. These differences do not arise from material alone, but from the density and interval shaped by structure and texture. This exhibition begins from that premise: that each work controls the viewer’s movement—guiding, pacing, and shaping the encounter. The works act on the body, regulating how we move, how we sense, and how we experience time. What emerges is a tension between holding and release, between tranquility and unease. Throughout the gallery, a spectrum unfolds between holding and release. Some works draw in attention and hold it, creating suspended zones where time slows toward sensory stillness. Others push outward, releasing that tension into a denser, more confrontational atmosphere where space tightens around the viewer. Steven Seinberg develops luminous fields where color and light unfold gradually. His paintings do not assert themselves; they invite prolonged looking. Rooted in gestural abstraction yet oriented toward sensory and poetic experience, his work evokes memory, dream and emotion rather than fixed narratives. The colors diffuse like mist, softening boundaries as tension lingers, suspended in the atmosphere. The viewer is not confronted but absorbed into his paintings, drawn into a quiet, expansive field where looking becomes a prolonged, internal process. In this way, Seinberg’s practice approaches a kind of meditative process and sensory relief. Mark Acetelli works through the act of reduction. His surfaces emerge through layering and erasure, arriving at a state of quiet intensity where presence and absence remain in balance. What is removed becomes as significant as what remains. His paintings operate in the space “in -between”—between image and dissolution, between physical and spiritual experience. Emptiness here is not void—emptiness here is treated as potential and mindfulness, not absence. ANON builds images from dyed and layered fabric. Cut, joined, and reassembled, the material resists illusion. Color is absorbed rather than applied, and the surface emerges as a constructed skin—at once image and object, soft yet insistent in its presence. The work holds a quiet tension between fragmentation and cohesion, where structure remains visible even as the image settles. Across these practices, structure and texture are not fixed categories but shifting conditions. Structure stabilizes, yet it also compresses. Texture activates, yet it can also dissolve. Back Chungbuk’s Future Lies Not in Seoul, but in the World: Exploring a “Global Strategy” in Cheongju A global vision connecting the local and the world was presented in Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do. The message was clear: Chungbuk should no longer remain in a “second-place strategy” following Seoul, but instead leap directly onto the global stage. On the 22nd, a roundtable discussion was held at the headquarters of Bonjeong (本情), a specialty chocolate company in Cheongju. Participants included New York–based attorney Jang Jun-hwan, CEO of Gallery Chang; internationally renowned artist Shane Guffogg; and Lee Jong-tae, CEO of Bonjeong. What made the roundtable especially notable was that three private-sector figures—a Korean-American lawyer, an American artist, and a Chungbuk-based entrepreneur—came together to propose a global vision linking the region to the world. The discussion was organized following a “Culture–Technology Convergence” special lecture held earlier that day at Chungbuk National University, and explored the potential of a Chungbuk-style global strategy where culture, art, and regional branding converge. This gathering was not a simple corporate event or networking session, but a symbolic forum addressing Chungbuk’s urban future and industrial direction. All participants emphasized in unison: “Chungbuk’s next step is not Seoul, but the world.” Choosing Cheongju as the venue carried particular significance. Chungbuk sits at a transportation crossroads linking the administrative capital Sejong with the greater metropolitan area, while also hosting clusters of advanced industries such as bio, secondary batteries, and semiconductors. At the same time, it boasts rich natural and cultural assets—such as Songnisan National Park and Cheongnamdae—making it a compelling “testbed where industry and culture coexist.” Against this backdrop, the roundtable demonstrated how Chungbuk could evolve into a global hub city. Jimi Gleason is a painter who reinterprets the aesthetics of the Light and Space Movement—which shaped the California art scene from the 1960s through the 1980s—through a painterly language. Moving beyond traditional abstraction, he employs silver nitrate, a material historically used in ancient mirror-making, allowing chemical reactions, oxidation processes, and the reflection of light to generate surfaces that continually change over time. Within these canvases—where minimalism intersects with Light and Space—viewers encounter a synesthetic experience in which light and time unfold simultaneously. Rather than offering a purely visual encounter, Gleason’s work invites a philosophical dialogue between being and perception, material and immaterial, chance and control. Born in Newport Beach, California, Jimi Gleason studied art at the University of California, Berkeley, and later studied printmaking at the San Francisco Art Institute. After working as a photography assistant in New York, he returned to California and worked in the studio of Ed Moses.
